The OpenGDS Story

OpenGDS was not conceived in a boardroom. Headquartered in The Netherlands, our journey started out of a fundamental passion for software engineering and a practical frustration within the hospitality industry.

From a Single Solution to an Industry Standard

Our journey began over 15 years ago when we noticed a glaring inefficiency in hotel software: the inability to make real-time, independent updates to booking engines. What started as a custom, lightweight booking engine built to bypass clunky legacy systems quickly gained traction. As more and more hotels and resort groups started adopting our solution, our software naturally evolved alongside them.

To make the system truly seamless, we began engineering direct, automated connections with an ever-growing variety of internal hotel systems, including Property Management Systems and Channel Managers.

The Shift to Global B2B Infrastructure

As our network of automated integrations expanded, major Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) and emerging travel platforms took notice. Instead of manually chasing hotels for rates and availability, these growing platforms tapped directly into our automated infrastructure. We organically transitioned from providing hotel booking engines to facilitating the core API infrastructure that connects hotels and OTAs seamlessly.

The Birth of OpenGDS

Scaling up to process massive volumes of travel data requires a flawless foundation. Realizing the limitations of our original architecture, and driven by an uncompromising standard for technical excellence, we made the ultimate developer's choice: we rebuilt everything from the ground up.

OpenGDS is the result of that total rebuild. Engineered for the future, it features isolated user rights for properties and OTAs, advanced concurrent payment holds, comprehensive internationalization, and a highly optimized database structure. We don't rely on third-party aggregators or unnecessary overhead; we maintain direct, technical control over our connections to ensure maximum speed and stability.

Because our platform functions as the critical bridge between global travel providers and distributors, security is not an afterthought: it is the foundation of our architecture. Built from the ground up with deep in-house cybersecurity expertise, we process critical global hospitality data and protect it with bank-grade infrastructure.

• PCI DSS v4.0.1 Compliant: Our payment infrastructure strictly meets the latest and most rigorous Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards. We ensure all payment flows are secure and all sensitive transaction data is heavily encrypted at rest.
• Bank-Grade Access Control & MFA: We utilize advanced security protocols to protect partner accounts. Standard logins require strict Device or IP Verification. Our system ensures that authorization links are bound to the exact device that initiated the request, rendering stolen passwords useless to remote attackers.
• Mandatory 2FA for Sensitive Actions: We enforce a "Zero Trust" approach internally. Accessing highly sensitive information, such as viewing credit card details or performing bulk data exports, always requires a secondary Time-Based One-Time Password (TOTP/Google Authenticator), ensuring critical data remains protected independently of standard login credentials.
• Privacy & PSD2: Privacy by Design is integrated deeply into our codebase. We employ strict data encryption and role-based access controls to ensure full compliance with European privacy laws (GDPR) and payment directives (PSD2), guaranteeing safe, transparent, and legally sound data flows for our partners.
